Samsung Galaxy Note 8 review

The Galaxy Note 8 is the biggest reimagining of Samsung’s best smartphones for productivity, and more than enough to right the major wrongs of the recalled Note 7. This is a mega-sized mea culpa. Two weeks of testing has us convinced: this is a true redesign of your average smartphone from top-to-bottom, edge-to-edge, and rear camera to, well, rear camera. There are now two cameras on the back, a first for a Samsung flagship smartphone. It takes brilliant portrait photos, and you can even edit them post-capture to adjust the depth of field. The S Pen stylus returns, and it has a larger 6.3-inch ‘Infinity Display’ to work with – but one that doesn’t increase the dimensions of the actual phone […]

Galaxy Note 8 is going to be a nightmare to repair

The Galaxy Note 8 can be disassembled in ten relatively straightforward steps, reveals a teardown published by iFixit on Friday, but due to an abundance of small parts and the excessive use of adhesive, it’s a bit of a massive pain to reassemble. Steering away from the traditional component layout, Samsung has positioned the battery in the center of the Galaxy Note 8 and moved the vibration motor to the bottom-right to provide the cell with some wiggle room, should it happen to heat up and expand. There’s little chance of that happening though, seeing as the 3,300mAh battery the firm selected has not only been subjected to its extensive eight-point Battery Safety Check, but also tested by Underwriters Laboratories, a third-party company. Most of the […]

Samsung note7  disaster Samsung’s reputation beyond repair, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is making a comeback, and a new teardown shows exactly what’s different this time around.  To increase safety and avoid another recall, the limited-run Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition has a battery that’s undergone some major changes, according to an iFixit teardown. The South Korea-exclusive Fan Edition features a brand-new, lower-capacity battery that holds 3,200mAh of juice, down from the original Note 7’s 3,500mAh.  Voice has been the cause of much consternation for Galaxy S8 owners. Samsung hyped it up as one of the biggest features of the new flagship and yet it wasn’t able to deliver Bixby Voice at launch. The program also allowed Samsung to collect much needed big data to further improve Bixby Voice.   YouTuber Sakitech has posted a video on his channel detailing the capabilities of Bixby Voice and they’re quite impressive. The video shows that Bixby is capable of performing basic […]

The note legacy is back but this time it’s fan edition

Samsung confirmed earlier this year that it was going to release a refurbished variant of the Galaxy Note 7. It has millions of units gathering dust in warehouses because Samsung had to discontinue and recall the due to a battery defect. So why is the Galaxy Note 7 making  comeback? Releasing a refurbished variant is one of the ways that Samsung will contain the environmental fallout from the recall. Instead of having to trash or recycle parts and components for all of those handsets, it can put them in circulation once again. The company is also going to make money off of this, but that’s beside the point. The Galaxy Note Fan Edition was officially announced earlier this week. Samsung is going to […]
